It was January 2014 when the idea of starting out as a Virtual Assistant first came into being. I knew it wasn’t going to be easy, and it would be a case of starting from scratch but, being passionate about paperwork and administration I knew that it was something that was right for me and (most importantly) something that I would enjoy.
I have to say that I have enjoyed building Curlew Secretarial Solutions even more than I thought I would, and the business is continuing to grow and be successful.
I can honestly say that I wouldn’t be where I am now without the support of my family and the Cumbria Growth Hub, who have provided me with all sorts of training courses and business advice. I have also met some fantastic folk through networking, training and conferences who have been so supportive. If there is one piece of advice, I would give to anyone wanting to start a new business it is to network, network, network!
I have had some amazing experiences as well. Going on the radio to talk about my business, stories in the newspaper and presenting my business to different business and networking groups around Cumbria and the North East.
I was also over the moon to hear that I have been made a Finalist in the national Best Newcomer VA 2015 Awards and find out on 14th October at Office 2015 in London if I have won the award! Even if I do’nt win, I am overjoyed with the achievement of being made a finalist.
Finally, if I look at how far I have come I can still honestly say that I am passionate about my work, and I have such a great relationship with all my clients, it is a joy to sit at my desk each day. I can’t believe I waited so long to do this, I have found my true vocation in life, and I love it!
